This was my first foray into experimental biology! I worked under the patient mentorship of Sannidhya De and sought to better understand the role of a particular molecular domain called the V-domain present on a protein named Drp1 in the regulation of its interaction with mitochondrial adaptor proteins. I learnt how to recombinantly express proteins in model organisms like E. coli, protein purification procedures and protein-protein interaction assays.

While this experience did not directly shape my current modeling work, it gave me a grounded understanding of experimental constraints and gave me a clearer sense of experimental uncertainty, constraints, and what it takes to connect models to measurable biology.
